Tumco Feb. 2nd

The Red Earth Casino is back down the Box Canyon road near the Salton Sea. A good place to dump and fill. $10.00  It was still early in the afternoon but we decided to check out the RV parking. It was spacious and fairly level paved parking lot. Allstays said RV parking was free. so we decided to stay the night. It was well after lunch time, so we decided to see what food the casino had to offer. There was a Cantina style restaurant that offered Mexican and American food. We ordered Mexican, good choice, it was very good.

I went to ask the gal at the fuel counter what we had to do to stay in their RV part, she said $20.00 please. Kind of shocked, I paid up. Walked through the casino and spent $20.00 each on the slot machines. Next morning, Pat wanted to buy some milk, so she decided to ask about the $20.00. The manager said that the website needed to be corrected and we got our $20.00 back, we are happy now.

A BLM off of Ogilby Rd was our next destination, it is close to Yuma. The area is called Tumco Ghost Town, after a gold mine that was here in the early 1900's. It only lasted a couple of years. There are some remains of it, foundations etc and a grave yard. It was a nice place for a few days, even if the cell service was lousy.

On Sun. we went into Yuma to check it out. Knowing we would need to do laundry, dump and fill we checked out McCoy RV park, Passport America. Well, nobody was home, I guess they don't work Sundays. Monday we took the trailer down there and still no one there. Pat called on the house phone and left a message that we were parked outside. After waiting for almost an hour, we decided to try somewhere else. They tried to call us this morning, lot of good that does.

We had passed Pilot Knob RV on our way into Yuma but did not realize that they were a PA. So, off we go back down Hwy 8 to Pilot Knob. Sometimes things work out for the best, it is very nice here, as are the people at the front desk. It is not crowded and other than some freeway noise, quite quiet. We were almost out of clean clothes, so the washing machine has been quite busy.

I think we will take a drive to El Centro this afternoon, we have not been on that part of Hwy 8. It is about an hour west of us.

Tomorrow we will find a BLM closer to Tucson.

Still some persistent wind but it has warmed up a lot, we have not had to use the furnace in the morning for a couple of days and only last night for a bit.  11 or 12 at night but it warms up quickly. 22 or 23 daytime, just right.
